The Executive Board of National Fund for Mohen-jo-Daro (NFM
LARKANA / FEBRUARY 14.The Executive Board of National Fund for Mohen-jo-Daro (NFM), chaired by Sindh Culture Minister, Ms. Sassui Palijo, held its second meeting, after devolution of the site from Federal Government to Government of Sindh, Culture Department at Mohen-jo-Daro on Tuesday, February 14, 2012. The Executive Board decided to develop a Master Plan of Mohen-jo-Daro with the assistance of UNESCO which will be presented for further deliberations and fund raising in an International Symposium/ Conference, scheduled in December, 2012 at Mohen-jo-Daro. The Board also decided to include Commissioner Larkana Division, as its member, for which a formal approval of Chief Minister Sindh will be obtained. Besides, the Technical Consultative Committee (TCC) of NFM will have two new members viz. Dr.Kaleemullah Lashari and Syed Hakim Ali Shah Bukhari. The former being historian and the latter a renowned Archaeologist of the region will further strengthen the TCC and make it more representative.
The Board was apprised that Culture Department and UNESCO finalized the printing of a two year (2012-13) Table Calendar on Mohen-jo- Daro and the re-printing of three volumes of John Marshall’s book on Mohen- jo-Daro and Indus Valley Civilization (first printed in 1931 in Great Britain). The Board also approved the regularization of temporary employees of NFM and appreciated the efforts of Minister Culture for moving a summary to Chief Minister Sindh, for formal approval.
A committee was constituted under the Chairmanship of Additional Secretary (Culture) to auction the scrap of defunct Ground Water Control Scheme and the contracts of parking and museum fees, etc.
The area DSP was called to apprise the Board about the progress achieved in the criminal case of the theft of antique seals, which were stolen from the museum in 2002. The Minister directed the officer to immediately arrest the absconding accused; ensure recovery of stolen seals/ other items and re-open the case to prosecute the thieves. Another committee was constituted under the chairmanship of Commissioner Larkana Division for plantation of the site and its surroundings.
The Board also approved the strategy for promotion of Cultural Tourism which includes publication of pamphlets, picture post cards, posters, etc and their dissemination; photographic exhibitions within Pakistan and abroad; preparation and execution of a Master Plan to preserve the site and to improve facilities for the tourists etc. Mohen-jo-Daro will also have a better management structure including a very qualified and independent Project Director with Archaeological Conservators and Conservation Assistants. They will have all requisite machinery and equipment for better preservation of the site, resolved the Board.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Abdul Aziz Uqaili, Secretary Culture Sindh, Ms. Kozue Kay Nagata, Director of UNESCO, Islamabad; Mr. Qasim Ali Qasim, Director Archaeology Sindh; Mr. Ashfaque Hussain Musavi, Additional Secretary Culture and Mr. Abdul Razzaque Soomro, former Ambassador and member of the Board. Syed Asif Haider Shah, Commissioner Larkana also participated as an observer.
